Software Reviews of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 UltimateCustomer Review: Great for the professional, but easy to learn on your own with no experience as well Summary: 5 StarsI do graphic design and marketing and do much with photographs in my day job. This is a go-to program for me both at home and at work. To me, there is more to use and it's easier to follow than even photoshop. It's what my non-artsy honey learned to use at home too simply via the video turtorials...which make it all come together quickly and easily if you have no experience.
There are endless ways to use this. I've edited wedding photos so that the photo is vintage but the flowers are in color for dramatic effect. I've taken photos and just made them into outlines (like a coloring book picture..more on that in a minute) so that I could transfer them to a canvas and paint them, I've made wrinkles easily disappear when doing corporate photos and made teeth whiter in one button click, I've edited out wires under a table and made grass greener for real estate photos easier than can be imagined...
ah, I could go on and on...and that isn't even mentioning the things you can do just for fun and "art"...like make a photo look woven, or like it's tiled, or has a corner curling up...
Also, though everyone may not need this part, it was a plus for me as an artist: I've tried a lot of photo software and even free sites on the internet to find the best way to turn a photograph into what looks like a pencil drawing...but one with REALLY clean edges and detail. None have come close to this: you just bring up the photo, click on "edges" then "find all"...boom, your color photo is now a line drawing like a cartoon book or sketch book drawing. Not only is it great to see a perfect sketch of someone for fun, but it makes it super easy to copy it onto a canvas if you want to.
to me, there is so much for the advanced user here but I think a strong advantage is that, for the beginner, the tutorials, in my opinion make that user more quickly become advanced and be able to do so many more things than in other programs such as photoshop. The tutorials are all you need to do pro work quickly.
It's hard to wrap up all that can be done in a mere brief review. So, suffice it to say, I've used so very many programs and this remains our go-to program. In fact, when I've shown all that can be done on Paintshop ProX to photoshop users such as the realtors I work with, I get em to switch over to this side!
Customer Review: Save your money! Summary: 1 StarsI'm runing a Pentium 4 processor with 4GB of RAM, and this program just takes forever to load, and mostly crashes at start-up. I also use Nikon Capture NX2 which works well on my system. This program has been nothing but frustrating for me, and Corel has been no help. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Customer Review: Paint Shop Pro fails with no warning - Corel says they will not fix Summary: 1 StarsCorel Paint Shop Per X2 has obvious programming errors that the support system says they will not fix. Based on my experience Corel does not care about the user and allows programming errors to be the norm. The program may appear to work on your photo, but can you ever be sure?
I was using Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 to enhance old photographs that I had scanned. Because of the photos contained a lot of detail, I scanned them at a high resolution. When I brought them into X2 some functions seemed to work, but other functions failed to work as expected. I sometimes even got basic programming error messages that indicate the application had failed.
I reported this using Corel's email support. Their only suggestion was reinstall. That seems to be their answer for any unusual behavior. I did this, no change in results. I asked to talk to a manager and they refused.
I then called the phone support line to report this as a bug. They took the report, and then called back in a few minutes saying that is was my problem for using a picture that was too large for Corel X2 to handle and it was my problem. They completely ignored the fact that the program failed to identify this as a photo that was beyond X2's capability. And, nowhere can I find the limits of X2 processing capability.
Corel should have taken this seriously because a failure in their program causes bad results. If the picture is too big for X2 to handle it should tell me that, not just produce bad results. This implies that Corel is not quality oriented, and you should be careful using the product. If this type of error is common in the product and is called a user error, the quality control for the software likely leave other "user error" program errors throughout the product.
Customer Review: Was not impressed Summary: 3 StarsI had researched for over a month and a half and had been juggling between Paint Shop Pro X2 Ultimate and Adobe Elements 7. I had been to a thousand blogs and review sites and finally downladed both trial versions and sat down for a couple weeks to do my own comparison. At first glimse of both applications, I felt more comfortable with the Adobe product. After about a week, I confirmed those initial feelings. To me, PSP was just not that intuitive. The screen was way to busy, and I just could not get a feel for where things were and what they did. Adobe is by no means a simple application, but I did find navigating around with less complexity. Now I am not an experienced user of digital photo editing software, so this review may not be good for the more experienced user, but to the beginner, I can tell you this much. I felt much more comfortable with Elements. Hope this helps.
Customer Review: Lots of bells and whistles... Summary: 5 Stars...but this product does much more than just crop or flip a photo. I am a beginner when it comes to photo editing software, but this is relatively easy to use, and I find I am using a lot more of the gadgets that I thought I would. Makes downloading photos easy also. I have a pictbridge adaption on my printer, which makes it easy to insert my camera's sd card. This program does the rest.
